Description

The history of Mayfield dates back to 1815 when explorer William Charles Wentworth was granted a Mayfield Crown Grant from the governor of NSW. Today the Settlers Cottage is a heritage-listed homestead and popular accommodation. Vines were first planted in ’99 and Mayfield vineyard was born. Since ownership changed hands in ’21, Mayfield has been given a breath of cool, crisp Orange air from root to bottle under the guidance of the Eastham family. Single-vineyard wines, minimal intervention and a focus on elegance, refinement and vivacity are at its core.

Cool climate range includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Rosé, Sparkling and Cabernet. Planted in 1998, Mayfield Vineyard’s natural features include an elevation of 950m with more than 900mm per annum rainfall. The cool climate compliments the rich loam and basalt soils to produce one of the top wine regions in Australia.

The grapes were fermented in open top tanks (30 percent whole bunch) prior to being transfer for maturation in Tronçais French oak puncheons (20 percent new) for nine months.

2022 Mayfield ‘William’ Pinot Noir  – 96 / 100 Points

“Richly fruited and seductively fragrant, the bouquet shows sweet berry, dried mushroom, smoked game and rich floral nuances, followed by a concentrated palate offering seamless flow and refined texture. It’s gracefully powerful with layers of complex flavours, wonderfully framed by loads of fine-grained tannins, making it hugely appealing.

2022 Mayfield ‘William’ Pinot Noir  – 96 / 100 Points

A reserve release from the best 13 rows from Block 10, from a vineyard site that is perched 900 m above sea level.
The wine is a vibrant light to medium red in colour. You can feel the high proportion of new oak, but there is power of tannin and fruit to balance it, whilst also taking on an earth and gentle smokey nuance. There is such structure and length that unfurls on the mid palate before a long, fruit driven finish. A seriously impressive wine that is bound to turn heads
