AROMA: Peach and spice, and green iced tea complexities; a pure feeling of clean fruit.

PALATE: It’s a glossy and nutty ride of flavour, a little warm, quite umami with a seaweed and mushroom flavour, samphire, lemon zest and salted peach, some chalky chew, with a bold finish of good length. So salty and mineral. Bold Chenin. Curious, but good.

Description

Château de la Roche en Loire is a small, family-run estate in the Touraine near Azay-le-Rideau, producing a range of Loire Valley wines from a site bordered by forest and overlooking the Loire and Indre valleys. The domaine has practiced organic and biodynamic viticulture for many years, emphasising low-intervention farming and a living, balanced vineyard ecosystem. Vineyards sit on mixed soils of clay, sand and flint (small stones), which contribute to a distinctive mineral character in the wines and suit varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc.
Winemaking blends traditional and modern techniques: careful hand-harvest, pneumatic pressing and measured oak use; the range includes dry whites, rouges and textural cuvées, some finished in amphora or large oak for texture and ageability.

Chateau de la Roche en Loire Chenin Blanc ‘Cuvée Colette’ Amphora 2020 – 93 / 100 Points

Bruised apple, marzipan, nutty and minty, slippery peach, saline and savoury. It’s a glossy and nutty ride of flavour, a little warm, quite umami with a seaweed and mushroom flavour, samphire, lemon zest and salted peach, some chalky chew, with a bold finish of good length. So salty and mineral. Bold Chenin. Curious, but good.
